The pictures below are of what used to be my 740il.
I bought this car from a friend in April 1999. I called BMW to pick up the car and evaluate it, they gave me a confirmation that it was a good car and recommended that I buy it. They also proceeded to give me a service report in which they recommended that I change some normal wear and tear parts like hoses, plugs, etc. and to service it. I followed their advice and did the necessary as recommended. I then picked up the car and drove it home, had lunch. I then proceeded to the office. The car lost power and I called the BMW service manager immediately and he said not to worry, but to drive to the office, someone would be over to rectify it. As I was proceeding to the office, the car caught fire and all these happened within one hour
This supposed to be the top of the line in it's class. I have been an ardent BMW supporter for the last 20-odd years, but the explanation given by BMW and the shrugging-off of responsibility has led me to set this up. BMW has denied that this is caused by a malfunction. The explanation given by them is that a "plastic bag got caught in the wheel". (Read the letter.)I find this explanation preposterous. Does this mean that a BMW is unsafe from a little plastic bag? They have since treated me in a very unprofessional manner and have told me to remove my car from their workshop.
I have also checked with Michelin and their engineers have confirmed that it is impossible for the tyres to have caught fire and that is is caused by the malfunctioning of their braking system!
This case has caused me many sleepless nights and not to mention a MONTHLY STORAGE CHARGE at BMW. Please help by signing my Guestbook below and also e-mailing me. Thank you.
